Teder and Hennessy
are happy to be back
for a third episode for this season of Jazz is cool,
a journey that transends continents, countries and oceans,
that turns every rock with the right tour guids to each corner of the world
and gurantees the real unthentic expericence, and not the tourist traps.
And this time, an event that is dedicated wholly
to the life work and art
of one of the biggest jazz giants that roamed the earth,
Charles Mingus.
Mingus - a bassist, pianist, guitarist, composer and a leader,
is one of the most importent figures
in American music of the 20th century,
that grew his own distinct language,
and played his own league,
along side other masters such as Charlie Parker,
Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington.
Mingus recorded, produced and released
over a hundred albums in his life-time,
many of which still are cultural milestones
that echoes to this day.
From the sixties and until his death,
Mingus stood in the avangard front of the jazz world,
and his personal touch transformed every genre he experienced with,
from Big Band, through Hard-Bop, to free jazz to pieces that gushes with composition,
Color and emotion.
Through the course of the day,
we will call upon his spirit via musical ouija board,
with a special one-time concert Ft. Omer Avital and Gilad Abro
named "Ahalan Mingus" -
original sweeping humage to Mingus works
and solo piano shows in the Mastero spirit
by Maya Dunietz, Eden Ladin and special guests.
